Recently, the Liver King, one of the internet’s most beloved body-builders, was caught using steroids.

Liver King was known online for promoting the ‘ancestral lifestyle’. A lifestyle promoting getting back to the way our ‘ancestors’ lived. This involved exercising extensively and eating a diet primarily made of raw liver, bone marrow and cow testicles.

While there have been whistleblowers to the Liver King's possible usage of steroids, for the most part, the internet believed this was his natural build. Partly, because of the insanity of his lifestyle. Potentially, if someone ate and exercised as strictly as he did, it was possible to have his level of muscle growth. Turns out, it isn’t.

In his apology video, he discussed the issues he’s had with body image. Which is what drove him to steroids in the first place.

It seems that the internet has discussed unrealistic bodies online for a long time, but we’ve always hyper-focused on women. Liver King, while he is still part of the problem, does highlight the issues that come with the unrealistic standards male influencers set for their male fans.
